BACK FROM HOLIDAY..

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 12, 2009, 6:57 AM

Did we both have a good time, we sure did.. :iconcheerplz:

The first three days were very hot especially at the Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo in the middle of New South Wales where the temperature quickly climbed to 36°C and having to lock the car up every time we stopped to take photo's then getting back into it was like getting into a oven, it did not take long to drain the energy from both of us, seems the animals did not like it either and the big Cats were right at the back under the trees trying to keep cool so were the Elephants and the Giraffe, I did manage to get a few shots of the Giraffe with my Telephoto Lens though I was so disappointed with missing out on the other animals.. We went again the next morning so I managed to get photo's of the other animals though by 11 am they had gone under the trees again..

Lots of clouds followed us when we left the centre of NSW having rained the three nights we were there, and as we headed East to the Coast it started to get a little cooler. I was amazed at how green the country side was especially around the Hunter Valley where a lot of the good Australian Wines come from, so many Grape Vines hills and hills of them looked like they get a decent amount of rain.. We stayed the next two nights in a little place right near the beach called Old Bar we had a lovely Cabin and slept well. We toured the local spots North and South of this great little place then drove further North staying the next five nights in another beach side Cabin at a place called Grassy Heads.. Two more wonderful days of looking around the Coast and beach side towns and then it started to rain and did not stop for four days it actually flooded a lot of the Coffs Harbour district as it got over 500mm of rain on the second day that's half of their annual rainfall, and it was raining at Grassy Heads so we decided to go to the Butterfly house in Coffs Harbour 90 kms North rather than stay in the Cabin all day..

Little did we know that we would be stuck in the Butterfly House most of that day as the rain heaved down so hard. On the way up we had to stop twice as the wiper-blades could not keep up with the force of the water so we could see nothing out the windscreen of our car, that drive in the morning was nothing compared to the drive back at 3pm when it was almost dark, hard to believe it could get so dark so early at this time of the year and the water on the road was terrifying my Tony did a marvelous job of getting us back safely through the flooded Highway which was very scary as sometimes the water went way over the top of the car when we could not see a patch of it way across the road even though Tony was driving at only 50kph.. The next day we stayed in the cabin as the rain continued and as we packed up that night ready to head back up North to Coffs Harbour the next morning we hoped it would be dry, of course it wasn't but we made it ok, and it finally stopped raining the next day and we were able to get out and see more of the countryside and coast..

We got home late this afternoon Thursday and had a wonderful last few days with the sun shining all the time we both got sun-burnt a few times, slept badly, got around in wet clothes at times, I did not get to see any Sunrises or Sunsets, though we seen a few Lighthouses I loved every minute of the past two weeks except the terrible drive in the heaving rain. Having said that its great to be home and seeing its around 1am and past my bedtime I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed once again and that's the only thing that I missed the past two weeks.. :D

I met in the street a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, his cloak was out at the elbows, the water passed through his shoes, -
and the stars through his soul.
